Even Apple dislikes traditional cigarettes
Unless you’ve just arrived on Earth yesterday, on a flying time machine, you know that smoking isn’t good for you. But did you know that second hand smoke could kill your computer too?
The folks at Apple Computers are refusing to repair the Macs of smokers because apparently the tobacco residue that settles inside the machine poses major health risks. This observation comes after two separate service centers in the US have told their customers that they couldn’t repair their computers as their machines were contaminated with cigarette smoke (according to the PC Pro online magazine).
“When I asked for an explanation, she said he’s a smoker and it’s contaminated with cigarette smoke which they consider a bio-hazard!” says one customer, who was trying to get her sons Mac repaired (as claimed by the Consumerist website). When she called Steven Jobs office about the Apple Care Warranty not covering anything about smoking, she was told that nicotine was listed as a hazardous substance by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration and that the company wouldn’t undertake a repair.
In spite of their green initiatives, Apple’s new Eco-approach may raise some eyebrows, but we do appreciate Apple standing up for safety!
Moral of the story: If you are a smoker, start smoking Electronic Cigarettes and save your computer! The electronic cig looks, tastes, feels and satisfies exactly like a normal cigarette – minus the smoke. It only emits water vapor so there is no passive smoke or pollution.
